The United States has no shortage of outstanding natural landscapes and environments. While national parks, breathtaking sites, and gorgeous mountains usually steal the show, there are hundreds of other destinations with jaw-dropping views and unforgettable experiences. These spots either see less foot traffic than popular places or simply slip through the cracks of travel discourse. Then again, no one will say no to fewer crowds and more time to enjoy the locale.

If you're looking for these under-the-radar spots, 24/7 Tempo compiled a list of every state's "most underrated natural wonders." The list includes nature preserves, state parks, lakes, waterfalls, land formations, caves, and much more.

Ape Caves was named Washington State's top pick! These lava tubes, a type of cave formed by volcanic eruptions, is often described as a rough hike. The return hike, however, is lined with shady forests and fascinating lava formations. Here's why this spot deserves more visitors:

"No, there aren’t any monkeys here. Instead, this is one of the longest lava tubes in the country. It stretches for two miles and provides plenty of twists and turns if you’re brave enough to venture forth."

According to the Washington Trails Association, Ape Cave is open from May through October and requires a reservation before visiting.
